Handicap Rules
* NOTE :- The term "Official Source" shall apply to how the member has achieved their handicap and must be verifiable.
: The Wedges handicap committee shall have full control of all members' handicaps with the proviso that the society handicap can never be higher than the member's official source handicap.
: The maximum Wedges handicap is 18 for men and 24 for ladies.
: New members will play off their official source handicap but will not be permitted to win a top 3 prize on their first appearance, this allows the handicap committee to assess the players handicap accuracy. They may however suffer a handicap reduction if "placed".
: Members will start the new season on the same Wedges handicap as they finished the previous season.
: Handicaps will be revised according to the following list :-
: SCORE HANDICAP
37 - 38 - 2
39 - 40 - 3
41 - 43 - 4
44 - 45 - 5
Over 45 - Handicap committee's decision.
The actual handicap adjustment will depend on the player's category :-
CATEGORY HANDICAP ADJUSTMENT
1 0 - 6 1/2
2 7 - 12 2/3
3 13 - 18 Full
: Thereby lower handicap players are penalised less than high handicap players.
: The winner on the day will be dropped a minimum of 2 shots irrespective of their handicap.
: Players scoring the same amount of points will be dropped the same number of shots (depending on their category), whether placed in the top 3 or outside. For example.... 3rd place scores 35pts and 4th and 5th also score 35pts they would also be dropped accordingly.
: If a player's official source handicap is reduced below his Wedges handicap then the Wedges handicap is reduced accordingly. It is therefore incumbent on the member to inform the handicap secretary of any change before commencing play, failure to do this could result in disqualification.
: If no player achieves a score of 36 points, the handicap secretary in consultation with the handicap committee will decide the handicap revisions on the day.
: In the event of a high scoring day where players other than the first 3 places achieve over 36 points then handicap revisions will be decided by the handicap secretary in conjunction with the handicap committee.
Upward Revision of Handicap.
: Upward revisions to a member's handicap is achievable if :-
a) The member has a bone fide handicap from an official source and evidence is provided of an increase.
b) The member has not been dropped by Wedges and finishes outside the TOP 10 on a Wedges day, in this case the member will be entitled to an upward revision of 1 stroke provided it does not exceed their official source handicap.
c) The member has previously been dropped by Wedges and finishes outside the TOP 10 on a Wedges day. In this case the member will be entitled to an upward revision of 1 stroke.
: In the event of points b) and c) above, the new handicap will apply at the next Wedges game, the TOP 10 rule will then be applied until the new handicap is achieved.
: All points above are subject to the member not having been capped by the handicap committee.
: The handicap committee reserves the right to "CAP" a person's handicap in the event of consistent high scoring and an upward revision can only be achieved by scoring less than 30 points on three consecutive Wedges days.
: A person's handicap may be "capped" if they achieve three TOP 3 places in a season but this will be reviewed by the handicap committee at the end of the season.
: Upward revisions will only be awarded in 1 stroke increments.
: No-returns will not be taken into consideration for upward revisions of handicaps, however if there is a genuine reason for a no-return then two's, nearest the pin, longest drive etc. will still be awarded.
: The handicap committee's decision is FINAL.
